Yuriy O. Alekseyev, PhD
Research Professor
Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine
Pathology & Laboratory Medicine

PhD, Wayne State University
MS, Moscow State University of Fine Chem Technologies
BS, Moscow State University of Fine Chem Technologies

Yuriy serves as director of BU Microarray Core Resource facility since 2007. Prior to joining BU, Yuriy was a post-doctoral associate with Dr. John Essigmann at MIT where he used animal models to study transcriptional networks affected by a human hepatocarcinogen Aflatoxin B1 and by chemoprevention agents that suppress aflatoxin-induced carcinogenesis.

Yuriy earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Department of Chemistry at Wayne State University in the laboratory of Dr. Romano, where he studied mechanisms of DNA replication, mutagenesis and repair of carcinogenic lesions. Prior to that he received a M.S. in biotechnology from Moscow Academy of Fine Chemical Technology and worked in Moscow State Scientific Center GNIIGenetica where he studied plant toxins and took part in development of immunotoxins for potential use in cancer therapy and organ transplantation.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility

As Director of a BUMC Core service I embrace diversity, equity and inclusion, including faculty and staff who are historically underrepresented in science and medicine and also members of the LBGTQ+ community. We ensure that all faculty, staff and students feel welcome to the Core services and are treated equitably and with dignity and respect. In 2021 I hired, trained, promoted and mentor Christopher Williams (URM), who pursues MPH degree at BU SPH and works full time at Single Cell Sequencing Core.
