Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility

As an immigrant and an international medical graduate from a developing country, I have navigated my professional advancement in the US with a heightened awareness of the challenges encountered by individuals who might be perceived as belonging to a non-majority group. I was involved in mentoring a BU STaRs underrepresented in medicine medical student on a couple of research projects, SARS-CoV-2 in infant urine and fecal samples after in-utero COVID-19 exposure and creation of perinatal COVID database. I have continued to mentor additional underrepresented in medicine medical students on a research project leading to a review article on COVID-19 vaccination in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
As an Associate Program Director of the Pediatrics Infectious Disease program, I have been involved in initiatives to enhance recruitment of URiM for the Pediatrics Infectious Diseases fellowship and have been successful in recruiting two fellows who identify as URiM for AY 22-23.
