Dimitrije Stamenovic, PhD
Professor
Boston University College of Engineering
Biomedical Engineering

PhD, University of Minnesota
MS, University of Minnesota

Dr. Stamenovic’s research centers around theoretical and experimental studies of mechanics of cells and soft tissues. His current research interests are in the areas mechanics and rheology of eukaryotic cells. His research combines approaches from engineering mechanics and physics to address fundamental questions relating to the relation between structure and function of cells, with a particular focus on how physical properties of cytoskeletal biopolymers, cytoskeletal architecture and mechanical forces borne by the cytoskeleton influence mechanical behaviors of cells and their responses to mechanical signals from their microenvironment. Recently, Dr. Stamenovic’ has been involved in designing and developing a novel light pneumatic knee brace that is capable of ameliorating symptoms of knee osteoarthritis. Other research interests of Dr. Stamenovic’ include pulmonary mechanics, mechanical properties of foam-like structures and continuum mechanics.
