Avneesh Gupta, MD, is a Clinical Associate Professor of Radiology in Body Imaging at Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. He is also Vice Chair of Informatics in the Department of Radiology at Boston Medical Center. Before completing his fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, he was a resident at Boston University Medical Center. Dr. Gupta's has been on staff at BUSM/BMC since 2005.

One of Dr. Gupta's main areas of interest includes education and training of medical students, residents and fellows. Dr. Gupta served as Residency Director for the Diagnostic Radiology residency program for 11 years, and Body Imaging Fellowship Director for over 10 years. He has given hundreds of didactic lectures at the institutional, regional, national and international level.

Dr. Gupta is also interested in quality improvement, and established the Radiology Actionable/Incidental Findings program in 2016. This program is responsible for tracking and communication of actionable and incidental findings detected on imaging to ordering providers to ensure appropriate follow-up. The program has expanded over the last several years, with an increasing number of patient service navigators, and is responsible for handling over 5,000 actionable findings per year, with several publications highlighting the efforts our program.

Another interest of Dr. Gupta's is informatics and information technology. Dr. Gupta was the physician lead on numerous IT projects that helped to advance workflow, throughput and patient care in the Department of Radiology. Recent projects include successful implementation of Epic Radiant, the imaging arm of the Epic electronic medical records system, Powerscribe 360 which allows for voice recognition for reporting of imaging studies, and most recently a major upgrade of our Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS). The PACS is the major interface that diagnostic radiologists use on a daily basis to view imaging studies and dictate imaging reports. The upgraded PACS has allowed for substantial improvements in patient care resulting from improved reporting turnaround times, more efficient workflow, and improved workplace satisfaction.

Dr. Gupta also has research interests in a variety of topics in body imaging. Dr. Gupta has performed research in hepatobiliary imaging, dual-energy CT, and quality and patient safety.
