Samantha Auty, PhD, MS, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Law, Policy & Management at the Boston University School of Public Health and an Investigator at the Veterans Health Administration’s Partnered Evidence-Based Policy Resource Center. Her research focuses on improving access to care and health outcomes for individuals with substance use disorders, with a particular emphasis on Medicaid policy, alternative payment models, and healthcare delivery system reform.

Dr. Auty’s work examines how Medicaid managed care policies influence healthcare access, provider networks, and outcomes for low-income populations, including pregnant individuals and those with substance use disorders. She has extensive expertise in analyzing large administrative datasets, such as the Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System (T-MSIS), and applying rigorous quasi-experimental methods to evaluate the impact of state and federal policies. Her research has been supported by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and has been published in leading journals, including JAMA Internal Medicine and Health Services Research. She has also been recognized with multiple research awards, including the James Burgess Award for Best Methods Paper in Health Services Research.

Dr. Auty earned her PhD in Health Services Research from Boston University, an MS in Healthcare Research from Dartmouth, and a BS in Psychology from St. Lawrence University.
