Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility

Statement on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA)
My goal is to help ensure that GSDM provides an intellectually and culturally inclusive environment for all members. I will work toward creating a climate where students, resident and faculty members feel welcomed, valued and supported. This type of environment cannot be achieved without creating policies that encourage a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
There are many of ways that this type of environment can be fostered. Recruiting a diverse student body is imperative but only as a starting point. We also need to provide both mentoring and academic support to ensure that those of diverse backgrounds have the opportunity to thrive academically.
When I was in dental school there were not many female faculty to serve as mentors. I have and will continue to help foster more females to excel in both clinical and academic dentistry. I am proud of the mentoring that I have provided over my academic career to ensure that regardless of their background, students were able to thrive and reach their individual potential in the various programs I was affiliated with.
I will continue to work to place a high priority on creating an inclusive environment for all.
