Christina LeBedis, MD MS, is an Associate Professor of Radiology at the Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Radiology. Dr. LeBedis has specific interests in emergency radiology, trauma radiology and the barriers that social determinants of health pose for patient utilization of imaging screening for cancer. She has given many presentations, edited many chapters, and sits on multiple medical boards. These accomplishments have earned her multiple awards such as the Teacher of the Year Award from Boston Medical Center, the William R. Cranley Medical Student Teaching Award, and the Radiology Resident Research Training Prize awarded for Scientific Presentation. Since graduating from medical school, she has worked in the Boston area: first as a resident in Diagnostic Radiology at Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine then as a fellow in Abdominal Imaging at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

I am an Associate Professor of Radiology and Vice Chair of Research at Boston Medical Center (BMC) with a specific interest in emergency radiology, trauma radiology and the barriers that social determinants of health pose for patient utilization of imaging screening for cancer. On a routine basis in my clinical work, I am struck by the number of patients who present with advanced cancers in the emergency setting who have never undergone cancer imaging screening. As a radiologist with expertise in Abdominal Imaging, I am interested in decreasing these barriers to care and reaching underserved patients by identifying them as unscreened, providing them with imaging screening and potentially identifying their disease at an early stage where there is a better chance for cure. I am invested in leveraging an innovative tool at BMC that identifies patients’ needs in the social determinants of health domain, the THRIVE database, to identify at risk patients and increase patient utilization of cancer imaging screening.
