Marianne Jurasic, DMD, MPH is Clinical Professor of General Dentistry, with a secondary appointment as Clinical Professor of Health Policy and Health Services Research, both at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM). Her research focuses on the prevention, management and treatment of dental caries in large systems of care. This work has been funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. Secondary research interests include policy development in large systems of care and organizational efficiency. Dr. Jurasic teaches and mentors students in the Doctor of Dental Medicine program, and mentors residents completing the dental public health specialty program. In her role as Director of the Center for Clinical Research, she guides and mentors faculty conducting educational and clinical research projects, and has established a Dental Data Repository at the dental school that serves as a resource to faculty and students conducting clinical effectiveness studies. Outside of GSDM, Dr. Jurasic has been a member of the Veterans Health Administration, Office of Dentistry, Oral Health Quality Group, since its inception in 2008. In this role, she has worked with multi-disciplinary teams developing clinical recommendations and guidelines, assessing outcomes of dental care, and collaborating with colleagues examining antibiotic and opioid prescribing practices among VA dentists.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility

Through my teaching, service and research activities, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with individuals from a variety of life experiences and from many parts of the world. My research teams have consisted of individuals with diverse backgrounds and skillsets, resulting in a supportive team culture, and I deeply value the creative problem solving that occurs in such an environment. My research has focused on improving the oral health of Veterans who receive dental care through the Veterans Health Administration Office of Dentistry. This cohort of patients present with a higher burden of both oral and systemic disease compared to the general US population, and therefore providing standardized evidence-based dental care is of paramount importance.
