Kate Twomey, MD is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. Dr. Twomey received her medical degree from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Rutgers University. She then completed a residency in General Surgery at Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine and a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care and Trauma at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Twomey is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. Her academic interests include improving the care of vulnerable populations including underserved and minority communities, pregnant patients, and victims of violence as well as education, mentorship, and peer support. Her research centers on advocacy for physicians and surgeons with disabilities. Apart from her duties and responsibilities at BMC, Kate is also a member of various professional chapters across New England as well as nationally including Massachusetts Committee on Trauma, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, American College of Surgeons, amongst others.
