Dr. Conley, MD is a practicing Anesthesiologist at Boston Medical Center, with board certifications in Anesthesiology and Pediatric Anesthesiology. Dr. Conley graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in 2006 and has been in practice for 10 years. Dr. Conley serves as Director of Pediatric Anesthesia at BMC, where he oversees inpatient and outpatient pediatric anesthesia in the operating rooms, diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology and endoscopy. Over the past decade, Dr. Conley has had a profound impact on the care of neonates and children as the founder of Boston Medical Center's Virtual Pediatric Perioperative Home, or VPPH. The VPPH streamlines the pre-operative care of high-risk and medical complicated children who require anesthesia for procedures or diagnostic imaging. Dr. Conley has also developed interdisciplinary educational sessions on topics ranging from pediatric airway management to perioperative risk assessment in children. He serves as the associate program director for Boston University's residency program in anesthesiology. His research and scholarly interests include perioperative optimization and risk assessment in children, feedback in graduate medical education, healthcare worker wellness and the second victim phenomenon.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility
I've worked to increase diversity within our department, specifically as a member of our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Team, wherein, through empathy interviews with each of our residents and faculty, as well as in the development of "the pulse," anonymous feedback tool to get an ongoing sense of whether all members of our department are feeling seen and heard.
Most of my advocacy and inclusion work has centered around creating and now directing the Virtual Pediatric Perioperative Home, wherein we identify at risk children in the community who are booked for upcoming surgeries and anesthesia-requiring diagnostic imaging studies, then seek out ways to mitigate factors that would lead to their case cancellation. This includes our DCF screen, wherein we work closely with the Department of Children and Families to make sure that children in the Massachusetts foster care system don't miss their scheduled procedures.
