A native of Tampa, FL , Dr. McKown moved north to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Pre Professional Studies from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. She then earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. Dr. McKown went on to complete a residency in General Practice Dentistry at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, serving as chief resident. Her responsibilities included coordinating treatment under general anesthesia for adult patients with special needs. After her experience with treating medically compromised patients during residency, Dr. McKown decided to further her training in Anesthesia. She then completed a post-doctoral residency in Dental Anesthesiology at Albert Einstein School of Medicine/Jacobi Medical Center. Dr. McKown's training involved providing general anesthesia in the areas of general surgery, neurosurgery, otolaryngology (ENT), urogenital, gynecological, and orthopedic surgery as well as dentistry. In her second year, Dr. McKown served as chief resident and received more extensive training in office based anesthesia for pediatric and special needs patients through training at the Rose F. Kennedy Center. Dr. McKown now provides office based anesthesia for pediatric and adult patients as well as patients with special needs.
Dr. McKown is a member of the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists and American Dental Association. She holds certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as well as Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
