Jana Mulkern is the Director of Educational Technology for the Boston University Medical Campus. In this role she provides leadership, vision, consulting, and support around educational technology platforms and services. This includes researching and piloting emerging edtech related to teaching and learning, research, and assessment, as well as overseeing support the Godley Digital Media Studio. She and her team provide training and support to faculty, staff, and students of the Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine, Graduate Medical Sciences, Goldman School of Dental Medicine, and School of Public Health. She also teaches in BU’s Master’s in Health Professions Education Program, where she instructs both in-person and online sections of GMS HS 704: The Fundamentals of Learning and Teaching Modalities in Health Professions Education.
Jana holds a BA in Journalism from UMASS Amherst, an MS in Training & Organizational Development from Lesley University, and an EdD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in Higher Education from Boston University. Her dissertation studied medical education reform around technology, pedagogy, and content changes. Additional research interests align with favorite presentation topics such as: universal design for learning, digital accessibility, and generative AI in higher education. Prior to joining BU in 2009, she led corporate training departments and later spent several years as an independent consultant. She designed and facilitated educational workshops in management, organizational change, teamwork, sales, and technology for numerous organizations in various industries in corporate, healthcare, and higher ed sectors.
