Fernando R Fernandez, PhD
Research Assistant Professor
Boston University College of Engineering
Dept of Biomedical Engineering

PhD, University of Calgary

Dr. Fernandez is a neurophysiologist with an academic appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Boston University. His primary research interests are electrophysiology, biophysics and computational neuroscience. His general research goals are to understand the underlying mechanisms of neuronal electrical activity and its implications for synaptic integration and spike output modulation in cortical circuits. Dr. Fernandez have extensive experience in single neuron electrophysiology (in vitro and in vivo patch-clamp), imaging (in vitro and in vivo) experimental design, scientific writing, biophysical modeling, data analysis, as well as student training and mentorship.
His future goal is to have an independent lab and carry out research that addresses how the statistics of membrane voltage fluctuations observed in vivo interact with specific intrinsic neuronal properties to set the general output characteristics and modulation properties of spike output in cortical circuits.
