Ernie currently serves as the Associate Provost, Boston University Medical Campus Information Technology. He leads the Boston University Medical Campus (BUMC) information technology team which includes network infrastructure, systems, desktop support and service desk, application development and support, teaching and learning technologies, and research computing. The Medical Campus includes the School of Medicine, Graduate Medical Sciences, School of Public Health, and the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine.
Previously Ernie served as the Director of Educational Technology for Digital Learning & Innovation at Boston University, where he played a leading role in the visioning, management, selection, and deployment of enterprise-level educational technology services. He led and oversaw several teams including educational technologists, platform administrators, data modelers/developers, and instructional designers in the educational technology organization. He advised university leadership and promoted the transformation of teaching and learning at the university. He conducted need assessments, envisioned, led, and participated in educational technology projects, including projects associated with emerging technologies and university strategic educational technology initiatives.
Ernie is an active member of the EDUCAUSE community, he currently serves as faculty for the New Managers Institute and as session reviewer for the EDUCAUSE annual conference, he has previously served on the EDUCAUSE Top 10 IT Issues panel from 2019-2020 and is a graduate from the EDUCAUSE Leadership Institute.
Previous to being at BU he was the Director of Instructional Technologies at California State University, Northridge. Where he provided leadership and hands-on management in the strategic adoption and use of educational technologies for teaching online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses. He managed projects, initiatives and assisted the University community to leverage technology in their pursuit of teaching and learning.
He also previously served as the Instructional Technology Manager for the Information Technology Assistance Center (iTAC) at Kansas State University. Where he oversaw all centrally funded instructional technology environments on the Kansas State campus, which included technology classrooms, studio environments, a Learning Commons, and the university computing labs; he also oversaw Video Conferencing Services and the new learning space design and consultation group.
He is currently investigating wearable technologies, virtual reality, augmented reality, and their use in teaching and learning.
Ernie holds an M.S. in Adult, Occupational, and Continuing Education and a Bachelor's in Business Administration from Kansas State University.
