Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility
During my time at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, I was given the special opportunity to gather with group of students during the summer of 2020 and created a list of requests to facilitate change at our institution. These changes allowed for current and incoming students who identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Color to have a more inclusive space for learning. This student-led group, known as Students for Equity and Anti-Racism, sought to evaluate existing MGH IHP practices and educational content, by highlighting and implementing ways to provide anti-oppressive training. After countless meetings with the School of Nursing’s Dean and the institute’s President, we were able to foster an environment of social justice, accountability, and racial equity for current and future students, faculty, and staff across all disciplines within the learning community.
