Dr. Merritt is Division Chief for Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Boston Medical Center, and Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. He is a pediatric emergency medicine specialist with a medical education focus who works to improve the care of sick and injured children by preparing pediatricians and emergency physicians to provide excellent pediatric emergency care.

Dr. Merritt joined Boston University from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, where he has had teaching and leadership experience across the medical education spectrum, from medical school through GME, faculty development and continuing professional development, including time as a residency program director, a longitudinal advisor for medical students, and most recently directing Brown Emergency Medicine's fellowship in medical education. He has published broadly and presented in national and international venues on a variety of topics in health professions education.

Dr. Merritt holds an MD and MPH from Tulane University and a Masters in Health Professions Education from the University of Michigan, where he has continued to mentor graduate students in the MHPE program. He has held editorial positions at the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine as well as at Academic Medicine, the Journal of the American Association of Medical Colleges.
