Dr. Kumar is a transplant surgeon at Boston Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. Dr. Kumar received his medical degree from Grant Medical College in Mumbai, India, and completed residency at the affiliated Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals. In 2022, he completed his post-doctoral training as a transplant surgery fellow at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine. Prior to joining Boston Medical Center, he was an attending surgeon at UNC, where he performed liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants; laparoscopic donor nephrectomies; and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgeries. He has a special interest in total pancreatectomy and autologous islet cell transplant (TPAIT). Active in research, Dr. Kumar has participated in clinical trials looking at everything from vascular staples in donor surgeries to the use of social media in organ donor referrals. In addition to publishing peer-reviewed articles, he has presented his research at multiple national and international meetings.
