Dr. Ahmet Urkmez is an Assistant Professor of Urology at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and an attending urologist at Boston Medical Center in Brighton. He specializes in robotic and minimally invasive surgery, treatment of kidney stones and benign urologic conditions, management of benign prostatic hyperplasia, urologic reconstruction, and urologic oncology.

Dr. Urkmez earned his medical degree from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine. After completing his residency in urology, he pursued advanced training in robotic surgery at the ORSI Robotic Surgery Institute and OLV Hospital in Belgium, followed by a two-year clinical fellowship in robotic urologic and reconstructive surgery at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston.

Prior to joining Boston University, Dr. Urkmez served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he focused on research in prostate cancer. He has also held leadership positions within the European Association of Urology’s Young Urologists and Young Academic Urologists groups.

An active clinical researcher, Dr. Urkmez has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and international presentations spanning prostate cancer, reconstructive urology, endourology, and men’s health. He has received multiple honors, including the GME Excellence Award at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, and has been invited to perform live surgeries and deliver lectures at national and international meetings.

At Boston University, Dr. Urkmez’s clinical practice focuses on robotic surgery for prostate, kidney, and bladder cancer; kidney stone management; minimally invasive treatment of urinary tract conditions; benign prostatic hyperplasia; and complex reconstructive procedures. He remains committed to surgical innovation, multidisciplinary cancer care, and the mentorship of future urologists.
