I am an emergency medicine physician, public health practitioner, and the Director of Global Health at the BU School of Medicine.

My academic focus is in global health. In particular, I work on projects concerning emergency medicine specialty development and medical care during humanitarian emergencies. I am currently involved in initiatives in Iraq, Ukraine, and Pakistan and have previously worked in Uganda, Bangladesh, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Ecuador, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. I am also involved with WHO working groups to conceptualize new approaches to humanitarian care in conflict settings.

My additional academic interests include:
-medical education
-rethinking the teaching and practice of global health, with an emphasis on bidirectional learning and cultural humility
-the intersections between climate change, urbanization, human migration, and health
