Research Expertise & Professional Interests Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness worldwide. A primary risk factor for the development and progression of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is elevation of intraocular pressure (IOP), which resulted from increased aqueous outflow resistance. However, the cause of this elevated aqueous outflow resistance in POAG remains unknown. The research in our laboratory is focused on understanding the mechanisms that regulate aqueous humor outflow resistance in normal eyes and how this resistance is increased in POAG in order to provide new insights for developing new therapeutic strategies to lower IOP.
