Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility

I am originally from Greece. I came to the States (Ann Arbor, MI) in 2011 for graduate studies. As an international student in a multicultural campus, I realized the importance of being accepted by the community. It has been a unique experience to get to know people from different countries, with different backgrounds, religion, customs, etc. I am always fascinated when I learn about another culture. I consider it like traveling around the world.
As a faculty at BUGSDM I feel the same way. I welcome all the colleagues and students and respect individual differences in all aspects (ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious belief, etc.) contributing to the mission of our institution.

I strive to improve myself and learn more about Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility with several ways. My MEd studies highlighted social justice and inclusion.
I have participated in the Safe Zone Training offered by BU Dental School of Medicine. It is an introductory training that provides the opportunity to learn about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning and others (LGBTQ+) identities, gender and sexuality, and to examine prejudice, assumptions and privilege. Another DEIA focused activity I took part during my participation at the Mid-Career Faculty Leadership Program (BU School of Medicine) was a project with title: ‘‘Inclusive Pedagogy: Creating an Inclusive Learning Environment’’ that underlined to me the significance of teamwork in order to develop and maintain a safe educational environment for all of us.
