Dr. Coogan's research focuses on environmental influences on health outcomes including cancer, obesity, and physical activity. Currently she is co-investigator on the Black Women’s Health Study (BWHS), a prospective study of African American women conducted by the Slone Epidemiology Center. She is PI of two studies using BWHS data: the first is evaluating the effects of air pollutants on the incidence of diabetes and hypertension in that cohort, and the second is a study of environmental and psychosocial influences on asthma incidence. Dr. Coogan's second research focus is pharmacoepidemiolgy, and she has published extensively on the relation of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, statins, antidepressants, and other drugs to the risk of breast, colorectal, and other cancers.
