Milan Vilas Patel, D.O., MBA, is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine, Boston, MA, USA. He earned his medical degree from NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed residency in Emergency Medicine at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) and Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJMC), part of Northwell Health, where he received the Carl Mealie Humanitarian Award. Dr. Patel holds an MBA with distinction in Strategic Healthcare Management from the Frank G. Since 2022, Dr. Patel has served as an attending physician at NSUH and was appointed Assistant Professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in 2024. He has been recognized with nominations for Northwell Health’s Truly Awards in 2023 and 2024, a program honoring physicians who demonstrate excellence and commitment to the organization’s core values.

Dr. Patel’s professional interests include improving emergency department operations and supporting medical education. He developed a locally maintained, data-driven ED throughput dashboard to assist with staffing and patient allocation while considering budgetary constraints, helping to optimize coverage during periods of high patient volume and reduce clinician workload. He has also contributed to performance and process improvement initiatives, including care algorithms for syncope and heart failure, treat-and-release metrics analysis across multiple emergency departments, pharmacy education workflows, and clinical workflows for the Sickle Cell Center of Excellence. Dr. Patel is an active educator and mentor, supervising medical students and residents, guiding them in their early careers, and serving as a test administrator for Masters in Emergency Medicine Oral Board Examinations in India. His scholarly work includes a peer-reviewed case report, a basic sciences educational resource, and presentations on graduate medical education and emergency department operations.
