Dr. Kaitlin Sawatzki (she/her) is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. Dr. Sawatzki uses computational and molecular virology tools to understand how emerging viruses move into novel species and what allows successful onward transmission. Dr. Sawatzki's research interests are grounded in a One Health framework, which considers how human, animal and environmental health overlap and affect each other. Dr. Sawatzki developed and manages a collaborative, multi-state surveillance project screening domestic pets, livestock, zoo animals and wildlife for SARS-CoV-2 to understand the risk of transmission and infection in diverse species.
