Dr. Sonkar received her BDS from Nair Hospital Dental College, India in 2011. In 2014, she earned her MPH in Environmental Health Science from Kent State University, Ohio. She completed her Certificate in Advanced Graduate Study in General Dentistry from University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2015. In 2018, Dr. Sonkar completed her post-graduate training with MSD and Certificate in Advanced Study in Periodontics from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry. She was a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of New England College of Dental Medicine from 2018-2019.

Dr. Sonkar is a Diplomate of American Board Periodontology. She is also a peer reviewer for the Journal of Indian Society of Periodontology and International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry and has published research related to oral medicine and periodontology. Dr. Sonkar’s research interests include systemic and oral health association, bone regeneration, integration of technology in dentistry and aesthetic treatment planning through implants and periodontal approaches and has received grants for her research work. She enjoys lecturing on periodontal topics and was recently invited by JAX Laboratory-Team Science Summit “Innovations in Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Disease Research” to share her proposal on exploring associations between Periodontal and Alzheimer’s Disease.

Dr. Sonkar is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Academy of Laser Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, American Dental Education Association.
