Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility

I am a primary care physician and researcher with the primary goal of improving health and access to quality care for historically marginalized populations.

As a lesbian woman who grew up in a conservative community in the south, I personally understand the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion. It was not until I was surrounded by people different from me, that I began to discover my own identity. Experiencing exclusion and rejection based on my identity, gave me a deeper understanding of the importance of inclusion and belonging. Yet I've also experienced privilege based on my skin color and access to resources. These collective experiences have shaped my career path and inform both my clinical work and research. As a clinician researcher, I aspire to continue using my position and privilege to amplify the voices of groups often ignored. My research has predominantly focused on access to care issues for sexual and gender minorities and people with criminal justice involvement.
