Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility
My strong commitment to and understanding of the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion
and belonging is critical to my role as a member of the SDM community. As a faculty
member, my courses contribute to the awareness, sensitivity, commitment, and motivation of my
students to be ethical, responsible, and compassionate health care providers and requires teaching
them to be open to diverse people and perspectives. A central goal in my teaching is to
demonstrate a strong respect for and appreciation of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
In my courses, I discuss both how medicine and science has encouraged multiculturalism and
sensitivity to diverse populations, as well as how it has harmed diverse groups of people. By
integrating discussions of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging throughout course
presentations and discussions, I demonstrate to students that they are integral and valuable to our
lives and critical for a health care provider to best care for patients.
