I am Assistant Provost for Faculty Development at Boston University Medical Campus, Vice Chair for Faculty Development and Diversity in the Department of Medicine, and co-PI of the Framingham Heart Study. I co-designed and co-lead the BUMC early career, the mid-career, and the underrepresented-minority longitudinal faculty development programs. I have also served as a facilitator for the newly launched CTSI “Training the Mentor Program”. The Boston University Faculty Practice Foundation is forming a women’s leadership task force. We will initiate a longitudinal mid- and senior- women’s longitudinal leadership program in 2016.
My research expertise is the epidemiology, prognosis, and genomics of atrial fibrillation. I have successfully mentored 36 trainees and early career faculty members on research projects and dozens of faculty members from around the country on their careers. I received the 2011 BU Department of Medicine’s Excellence in Research Mentoring Award, the 2012 American Heart Association’s (AHA) Women in Cardiology Mentoring Award, and the 2013 AHA Functional Genomics and Translational Biology Council Mentoring Award.
I have a fundamental commitment to faculty development and mentoring majority and underrepresented minority early, mid, and established investigators in epidemiology and academic medicine. In mentoring I view my role as facilitating individuals’ personal and professional growth/advancement in a manner that is aligned with their values and goals.
