Dr. Anne Fidler is the Assistant Dean for Public Health Practice and Associate Professor of Environmental Health at the Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH). She is responsible for the BUSPH Practicum Program, working with students, faculty, and public health agencies and organizations to assure that students have an excellent field experience that integrates and enhances their academic learning. She is the Principal Investigator of the HRSA-funded New England Alliance for Public Health Workforce Development, which trains public health practitioners across the region. She teaches practitioners through the Local Public Health Training Institute of Massachusetts and has taught several courses to MPH students, currently “Applying Public Health Skills in the Community.”

Dr. Fidler received her Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) in Environmental Health and Physiology (Occupational Health) from the Harvard School of Public Health, and became an officer in CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Service in 1985. From 1985 to 1997, she worked as an epidemiologist at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in Cincinnati, Ohio. During that time, she served in numerous scientific and leadership positions, with research interests spanning the field of occupational epidemiology, including the effects of solvents and other toxicants on the nervous system, reproductive and ergonomic hazards, indoor environmental quality, and radiation. In 1997, Dr. Fidler became CDC’s Academic Liaison assigned to the BUSPH, working with the Practice Office to increase opportunities for student field placements, and on several initiatives to assess and improve the practice of public health at the state and local level. Dr. Fidler led CDC’s efforts on two national surveys of local health jurisdictions conducted with the Department of Homeland Security to assess public health emergency preparedness for bioterrorism. Dr. Fidler has been an Editorial Advisor to Public Health Reports, and has served on a number of local, state, and national advisory boards related to occupational health and public health practice. She is a current member of the Executive Committee of the Massachusetts Association of Health Boards and the Advisory Committee of the Massachusetts Occupational Health and Surveillance Program. She is an elected member and Chair of the Milton, Massachusetts Board of Health.
