Victoria A. Parker, DBA
Associate Professor
Boston University School of Public Health
Dept of Health Law, Policy & Management

DBA, Boston University
EdM, Harvard University

Dr. Parker's primary research interests concern the roles and interactions of healthcare workers, especially those involved in the implementation of changed processes of care. She was the principal investigator of a study that examined the design of nursing care jobs and its effect on worker motivation, satisfaction and care quality. She has also served as co-investigator on a VA evaluation of three all-inclusive long-term care pilot programs to compare their effectiveness in reducing the use of hospital and nursing home care by frail elderly veterans, as well as other studies of care changes within the VA system. In addition, she is involved in ongoing private-sector consultation projects and teaches organizational behavior, human resource management, and managerial skills for problem solving. She directs the MPH certificate in healthcare management, co-directs MS and PhD programs in health services research, and serves as a member of the Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). She received her DBA from the Boston University Graduate School of Management, concentrating in organizational behavior, and previously earned an EdM at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and currently serves as chair of the Healthcare management division of the Academy of Management, the international organization of management scholars.

I am a woman who has juggled career and family (3 children) for many years. Earlier in my career, I studied work/life integration and thus it has long been an area of both personal and professional interest. My research interests focus on the application of organizational theory to healthcare settings and especially the experiences of healthcare workers, and my methodological strength is in the use of qualitative field research techniques. I believe in a mentoring team approach as no one person can provide all the mentoring needed, and often a diversity of opinions and advice can be most helpful.
