Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility

My family emigrated from the Philippines when I was two years old. Growing up in a suburb of Houston surrounded by several other immigrant families allowed me to have an enriching childhood where I interacted with others from different cultures every day. Now, as a Maternal Fetal Medicine physician at Boston Medical Center, I understand that the physiology and pathology of medicine is contextualized in the communities where patients live and work. At BMC, I am currently working with the Health Equity Accelerator to decrease hemorrhage rates among Black birthing people. When approached with this enormous task, I work with our team to create evidence-based recommendations for optimal management of patients to decrease the risk of associated morbidity. I believe that my goal of understanding our patients' communities and context resonates in the patient care that I provide and in my efforts to improve patient safety and outcomes.
