Kaye A. Bemis, NP is the Chief Advanced Care Provider and Clinical Research Manager for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Boston Medical Center and an Assistant Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avesidian School of Medicine. She received her Bachelors of Science in nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (2001), Masters of Science in Primary Care/Adult Nurse Practitioner from Northeastern University (2003) and RNFA degree from Northeastern University (2008). She joined the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Boston Medical Center in 2004. In 2021, she was the recipient of a 2020 Advanced Practice Provider Clinical Excellence Award by the BUMG and inducted into the BUMG Clinical Excellence Society.

In addition to being responsible for the management of many multicenter studies, Kaye has an interest in multidisciplinary quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. In 2017, in collaboration with Paul Tornetta III, MD and William Creevy, MD, she developed and led a quality improvement initiative called SAFE (Screen, Access resources, Follow up, Elective Surgery), a three step preoperative screening and referral process aimed at identifying and addressing twenty two medical and social modifiable risk factors. It was designed to optimize health and improve patient safety prior to elective surgery. In 2019, she worked with the QI Hub and the outpatient pharmacy to implement a “Meds to Beds” initiative, offering medication delivery to the bedside prior to discharge following elective surgery. The goal of the initiative is to improve patient compliance and reduce financial barriers to prescription medication access.

Kaye is involved in the Orthopaedic Residency program both teaching and evaluating the Orthopaedic Surgery Residents. Additionally, she also serves as a mentor and preceptor for Advanced Practice Nurses.
